When a factory hall, distribution center, or industrial building is delivered in shell condition, many assembly and installation activities often still take place inside the building afterward. Consider, for example, the installation of steel structures, systems, piping, and other technical components.
During these activities, small steel and grinding particles may be generated. When these particles land on higher parts of the structure and remain there, they can oxidize under the influence of moisture and air. This can cause so-called flash rust on the steel structure and the roof trusses of the building.
Flash rust had also formed on various hard-to-reach parts of the steel structure in this factory hall. To restore the building to a neat condition for delivery, the affected parts had to be cleaned, derusted, and re-preserved.
Rope access for hard-to-reach steel structures
A large portion of the affected trusses was located in areas that were difficult to reach using traditional access methods. Using rope access, our technicians were able to position themselves safely along and between the steel structures and carry out the work in a targeted manner.
By using industrial rope techniques, it was not necessary to install scaffolding or aerial lifts for every location. Especially in factory halls with limited workspace or obstacles on the floor, rope access can therefore be an efficient solution for maintenance and repair work at height.
Rust removal and recoating
Our rope access technicians have descended along the hard-to-reach parts of the structure and carefully treated the affected surfaces. Flash rust and other contamination were removed, after which the steel structure was recoated where necessary.
This prevented further corrosion and gave the structure back the neat and well-maintained appearance that belongs to the completion of the building.
Industrial maintenance at height
This project demonstrates that rope access is not only suitable for inspection work, but can also be deployed excellently for corrosion treatment, derusting, preservation, and maintenance on steel structures.
Sky People performs rope access work on factory buildings, distribution centers, industrial buildings, and steel structures, among others. Especially in locations where scaffolding or aerial platforms are difficult to deploy, our technicians can quickly and selectively create access to hard-to-reach parts of a structure.
