At Damen Verolme Shipyard, we worked on preserving the exterior of a ship's wheelhouse. Because it involved working at heights and the location is difficult to access with traditional means, rope access was chosen.
Using rope techniques allowed us to approach the different parts of the wheelhouse in a targeted manner. This made it possible to work without scaffolding and to keep the project manageable.
The work consisted of preparing and cleaning the surface, carrying out local repair work, and applying a new preservation system.
During execution, work was carried out in accordance with the applicable safety regulations and in coordination with the site schedule. The use of rope access allowed us to respond flexibly to the situation and address the different parts of the control room step by step.
A great example of how rope techniques can be practically applied to ship maintenance, especially in areas where accessibility is a challenge.
